My first Tarot deck (and book)!

May 14th, 2009 by taurusrising.net received 7 Comments »

Last week, I purchased my first Tarot deck: The Universal Waite Tarot Deck and Book Set.  It’s a beautiful deck, highly recommended for beginners.  The deck comes with a pocket reference book, which seems to be pretty informative.  It gives a brief history about Tarot and the deck, as well as a nice cheatsheet for the cards.

I also received the book: Tarot for Your Self: A Workbook for Personal Transformation by Mary K. Greer.  I am only in the first chapter, but I am enjoying reading it.  So far, I’ve learned that my Personality and Soul Card numbers are the same: eight.  This corresponds to the Stength (or Justice) card in the Major Arcana.  I also found out that my Hidden Factor (the parts that you fear or reject) is the The Star card.

I just googled and found this page for information about Hidden Factors and Shadow Cards.

I look forward to reading the rest of the book.  I have a lot to learn.

Oh!  A cool thing I found out last night…  The book was purchased from a used book store.  It’s a workbook, so there are spaces where you can write in your answers.  While reading the part about Personality and Soul Cards, I found that the person that had the book before me, has the same birthday as me.  What are the odds of that happening?  I know it’s a 1/365 chance… I thought it was pretty interesting.  :)

    Hi Lyn!

I really love it so far. Once I understand the cards better, I’m going to venture out and get some more decks. :) It’s definitely an addiction… I had to atke a break for a few days because I was getting too into it. :)

And very cool blog- I never checked it out before!

I love this deck – one of my favourites. Great to work with for a beginner… how are you getting on with it?

Be warned though… Tarot becomes an addiction!!

I never ended up doing a reading last night…I was too consumed watching the Bruins game, which went to overtime and they lost. :( Ahh well, there’s always next year…

Let me know if you have any questions!

    You’re such a rebel ;)

I could use all of the help I can get! I don’t have many friends that are into Tarot.

Did you do any readings tonight? :)

I can totally help with your Tarot edumacation! Some time ago I purchased the Mythic Tarot (I know, I buck the system, I didn’t want the Waite deck because everybody else had it at the time). It came with a little book that explained the deck. I read through it once, and did about a million readings within the first year or so with it–I am still rusty and need the book for interpretations, but after awhile you can look at a spread and just “know” how it’s going to turn out once the reading is finished.
I’m inspired, I might dust off my deck tonight, Greg is at work for a little while and I’m all by myself…:)

Oooh, you’ll have to educate me! I didn’t think about getting into Tarot until maybe two weeks!

It wasn’t the same year as me, but I thought it was awesome… another Pisces reading a Tarot book. :D

Hey Kat! I love the Tarot and that book sounds fascinating! I just found out through a little online research that my Personality card is the Wheel of Fortune, my Soul card is the Magician (fascinating!) and my Shadow is the Sun. Weird…something to ponder, especially since I don’t know much about numerology.
Also, pretty freaking crazy about the former book owner having the same birthday!
