Daily Tarot Card: 8 of Cups

July 9th, 2009 by taurusrising.net received No Comments »

Today’s drawing brings us the 8 of Cups.

Looking at the Waite deck, I see a person going on a journey.  It doesn’t seem to be a happy trip, but it is one needed for transformation. This may be a journey chosen because the person know it’s right thing to do, even though their heart may be telling them something otherwise.  The tide is low and the water has run dry.  This card is about leaving emotional attachment behind, letting go of things that are no longer “right” for us.  With the Moon shining down from the darkness, it also seems to suggest that this is a journey into the unknown.  What happens next?  Who knows?  There may also be feelings of apprehension due to not knowing where this journey will end up.  The rocks and mountains can be viewed as obstacles on the way.  It might be a rough journey, but these are the things that need to be faced to reach the destination point.  The Moon can also suggest awareness and intuition, so this card could also be interpreted as venturing to the subconscious part of the personality.

Reversed: With the 8 of Cups reversed, I see the darkness and the moon soaking up the water, leaving the person feeling emotionally empty.  This person is stuck and is not going anywhere anytime soon, unless changes are made.  The caterpillar is unable to make the transformation into the butterfly.  This person is emotionally attached to whatever is holding them back.  A very stubborn decision of not letting go.  This may be in the form of a bad relationship, the type that a person doesn’t want to leave despite being abused or lack of love.  X amount of years together, this person doesn’t want to let go of the life they have because like the 8 of Cups upright reading, this person is afraid of the unknown.
