Daily Tarot Card: Major Arcana – 05 – The Hierophant

July 31st, 2009 by taurusrising.net received 1 Comment »

Today’s drawing brings us The Hierophant.

I’ve notices that a lot of people have a little fear for this card.  He does not really look like a likeable person, especially if you’re not of the religious type.  In some decks, The Hierophant card is even called The Pope card.

Speaking for myself, I am not a religious person.  I grew up with a family split in religion.  So when it came to religious matters, we never discussed anything.  I consider myself to be more of a spiritual person, but I will save that story for another post.

When I look at The Hierophant card, I see this person as a mentor or teacher.  A person that is even sage-like.  This person spreads wisdom.  The Hierophant is a highly influential or authoritive type of person.  This is usually the type of person that you have a lot of respect for.

Another interpretation that I have of this card, is a person that is clinging to old ways of thinking.  Think of a person that sticks with tradition and is afraid to try anything new.  This person may be scared of letting go of old habits.

Reversed: With The Hierophant reversed, I see a type of person that is going against what is considered “the norm”.  The unconventional, the unorthadox.  This person may be somebody that is not accepted by society’s standards.
