Daily Tarot Card: Major Arcana – 12 – The Hanged Man
July 21st, 2009 by taurusrising.net received No Comments »Today’s drawing brings us The Hanged Man.
I’ve never had this card show up in my(personal) readings before, so I was happy to see somebody that was a bit new to me.
The Hanged Man is one of the Major Arcana cards in Tarot. This card is about sacrificing a part of yourself for knowledge or the “greater good”. This is the person that has had many things holding them back in the past. Perhaps, matters of the heart, being too attached to something (think, bad habits), ultimately, the things that you know aren’t good for you. This person has finally realized that in order to get past this stage and to move forward into a new phase of life, something must be sacrificed. Along with the bad addictions, think of these sacrifices as a negative friend that constantly brings you down, a job that is no longer worth the misery, or a project that isn’t as interesting as you once started. Detaching from these influences, or letting them go completely, is what The Hanged Man is about. Stop being stubborn and resisting what has to happen. The Hanged Man is about letting go, sacrificing, and moving onto a new chapter in life.
Reversed: With The Hanged Man reversed, I see a person that is unable to let go of bad habits. This person is too stubborn or too attached to let go of whatever is holding them back. Viewing the Waite deck, instead of hanging upside down, The Hanged Man is standing up. His hands are behind his back, causing me to think that he is hiding something. The Hanged Man is attached, stubborn, perhaps even in denial. I also see some trickery, this may not be a person to trust.
