Dreamy Wednesdays: Leaving the arena

July 1st, 2009 by taurusrising.net received 5 Comments »

Welcome to a new section at Taurus Rising!  This section is called Dreamy Wednesdays.  Every Wednesday, we’ll discuss different aspects of dreams, dream analysis and interpretations, and resources for interpreting dreams.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m really into dream interpretation.  Dreams can be pretty outrageous, but why?  Dreams have a lot of symbols and when decoded, dreams can carry some pretty important messages.

I’m considering interpreting dreams for others on this site, but in the meantime – I heartily recommend A Dreams-Teller’s dream interpretation site.

For now, I’m trying to piece together my dreams.  I woke up at 2:30AM this morning after having another crazy dream.  I am glad I keep a dream journal, I spent around ten minutes writing five pages about this dream.  I haven’t looked back on it yet, although I can sort of understand the message.  Until I post that one, here is a dream from the other night:

I was leaving a game at the arena. There was a lot of construction. I wanted to get to the other side of the road, almost got hit by a car, so I had to wait for the cars to go by. Once I was able to get across, I walked into the parking lot of a fast food place and decided that I would walk through the drive-thru. I ordered a salad with a dinner roll. Then drive thru turned into my old house. I was standing outside my parents bathroom and whoever was with me, asked me how to get to the arena… Then all of a sudden, I was walking into the house we lived in before the old house. It was very dark and reminded me of a level in a parking garage.I saw soldiers stationed in the room. I found out that two famous football players were soldiers and were driving around the war zone drunk and got killed. Then the dream started over.

Keywords and meanings from the DreamMoods dictionary:

  • Arena – an environment where you can freely express yourself or an issue that needs to be brought to light
  • Construction – rebuilding life, new surge of energy and growth
  • Roadblock? – obstacles
  • Almost hit by cars – goals are in conflict with others
  • Parking Lot – need to slow down and relax
  • Restaurant – overwhelmed with choices, need emotional support
  • Drive-thru – ???
  • Salad – desire to express feelings and positive influences, need for nature and good health
  • Dinner roll/bread – basic needs in life, positive things learned in life
  • Old homes – old beliefs, ways that you used to think
  • Bathroom – burdened, the need to “relieve yourself”.  The need to cleanse yourself emotionally and psychologically
  • Directions – search for purpose, path to self-realization
  • Darkness – ignorance
  • Parking garage – inactivity, idleness, feeling as if you’re going in no direction
  • Soliders – defending beliefs and values
  • War zone – internal conflict, struggle that is tearing you apart inside
  • Football players – ???
  • Drunk – losing control of life, somebody or a relationship is dominating you
  • Death/Killed – killing off old parts of yourself, old habits

Interpretation

There are many symbols in this dream that indicate the need for self-expression, moving forward from the past and old habits, learning from the past, a search for purpose and internal conflicts.

You are struggling internally with beliefs (war zone) or are struggling with a relationship (roadblock, drunk).  You have the need for some form of self-expression (arena, salad) and a desire for a sense of purpose (directions) , but you are having problems achieving this due to being burdened and bogged down by past issues.  You may have problems due to your goals conflicting with others (almost hit by cars).  Although you are defending your beliefs and values (soldiers), these issues are wearing you mentally and physically.  You could also be denying (ignorance) that there are any problems at all, thus leading the internal conflict.  You need to realize that the issue needs to be dealt with (arena?).  You need to release yourself from these burdens (bathroom) and old habits (death) in order to move forward.  Since the dream started over, it may indicate that you are stuck in a cycle or repeating the same mistakes.  Reflect on the positive things you have learned in life (dinner roll/bread), your past beliefs (old homes) and let these lessons show you how to move forward and express yourself.

There were other symbols in the dream that I was stuck on interpreting.  As always, I welcome any of your thoughts or feedback on this dream analysis!

    Hi A-Dreams Teller,

I enjoyed reading your interpretation! Actually, I just left a comment on your blog, so I won’t repeat what I said on here. :)

Hi Marcia! Thank you so much for your feedback and interpretation. It was very in-depth and it answered questions that I had regarding the symbols I was unsure of. Do you think that the person I was with was me? That sounds weird… but I have a few dreams where I’m with another person, but I can never see who they are or their face… it’s like a shadow.

Also, thank you for the link to your site. I will add it to my list of dreamy sites to go to when I need help with interpretations. :)

  4. Enjoyed reading your interpretation and Commenter’s of this dream. Well thought out and researched. Completely different from my interpretation though. Up to you to discover which rings true to your current life experiences. Maybe a combination of all of them.

Thanks for mentioning A Dreams-Teller’s site on your post.

I hope this interpretation is helpful.

I think this dream is about the need to take control of a situation that is creating conflict in your life.

Games (I assume the game in the dream was sporting event since it was in an arena) and war have similar connotations. A game is a make-believe war, in which one side tries to beat the other. In deams, both can represent conflicts in your life, although a war is clarly more serious.

Since the game imagery turns into war imagery – arena becomes war zone, football players becomes soldiers – your unconscious can be telling you that the conflict you are experiencing is more serious than you want to admit (it’s not all fun and game; someone can get killed.) The soldiers being drunk is also a sign of not paying attention to the seriousness of the situation.

Construction can represent growth, but if it was blocking your path to get across the road, then it can stand for something that is standing the way of your progress. The fact that it is in the process of being build can signify that this problem will get bigger if you don’t address it.

Having to wait for cars to go by is another sign that you aren’t taking control. You are allowing others to go past you while you stay in the same spot.

“Fast food” is easy to get, and might taste good at first, but it’s not very healthy nutritionally. A short-term solution. So going to a fast-food place is taking the easy way out, not fully dealing with the problem.

However, salads are often associated with things that are good for you, although not particularly tasty (really depends on how you feel about salads), so choosing a salad is a sign that in the end, you need to (or want to) to do what’s right, even if isn’t that pleasant for you.

Houses in dreams usually represent yourself – all of your unconcious and conscious memories, all of your experiences. Going to your old house, and then the house you lived in before, is a sign that you are searching into your past to see if you can gain some guidance on how to deal with things in the future.

You say you were in your parents house. Were your parents actually in the dream? Your parents can also be a sign that you are looking for guidance. (Depends, of course, on what your relationship with your parents was like in real life.)

The person who asked you how to get to the arena symbolized the part of yourself that wants to understand how the conflict started and how it can be resolved. A bathroom can represent the need to cleanse yourself of a situation, but you don’t go to the bathroom (just forget about everything) . Instead, some part of you wants to spend more time working on the problem (get to the arena.)
