Thankful Thursday: A background story and love for...

With love and gratitude to the astrology and Tarot community on Twitter!

I decided to do another post for the #thankfulthursday meme on Twitter.  Today, I want to express my gratitude for all of the people I’ve crossed paths with through this medium.

I have Mercury in Aquarius, which has influenced my personality in the way of my millions of different interests (exaggerating slightly!).  These interests ranging from cooking to painting, watching sports to computer coding… Throughout the years, my interests have varied from week to week, but the one thing that has always stuck with me is astrology.

Unfortunately, with my passion for the topic, I never had anyone to really discuss it with.  I had a few friends that had some interest in astrology, but they were only interested in the Sun sign aspects.  Anything past the Sun, they weren’t interested.  I wanted to learn the inner workings of astrology.  I wanted to have a conversation with someone about it, without them wrinkling their noses at me.  But through my early years, I never attempted to look outside of my circle to find new friends interested in astrology.  My passion remained, but I decided to focus my efforts elsewhere.

After a while, one of my friends did a few monthly Tarot readings for me and kept telling me that it was time to get in touch with my spiritual side.  She said she kept seeing this need in my cards, so in late April 2009, I decided to pick up my first Tarot deck: the Universal Waite.  I bought some books about learning Tarot.  I was able to get basic knowledge on how to read the cards, but then I thought about how it would be more engaging to learn if I could talk to someone about it.

Soon after, this blog (Taurus Rising) came to life in May 2009, with the intent of using it to notate all of the things I learned.  The blog was meant to be a personal reference for myself, yet at the same time, sharing whatever I learned to whoever stumbled across my blog.  Eventually later down the line, I wanted to take the path to reading Tarot cards professionally.  However, since I didn’t feel confident with my skills or knowledge, so I sought out to learn from those that were already at that level.

I joined Twitter as @taurusrising in May 2009.   My intent was to network and learn from professional Tarot readers.  Since I created my account, I’ve met a variety of people. A diverse crowd – people spaced across the globe, waltzing in from all wakes of life, filled with different levels of knowledge.  I was fortunate to “tweet” with others in the field. I met professional readers, hobbyests, and others wishing to break into the field.  Not only did I meet Tarot readers, but I also rediscovered my passion for astrology.  As I went on my quest for Tarot wisdom, I decided to pursue astrology wisdom as well.

Fast forward to now, I’ve been on Twitter for around five months.  My knowledge on astrology and Tarot has dramatically expanded.  I am constantly learning new things every day.

In astrology, I finally have reached a comfort zone outside of Sun/Moon/Rising signs.   I understand the planets and houses better than I did five months ago.  I am at the point where I feel comfortable looking at an astrology chart and pulling out basic information from what I see.  Had it been a year ago, my brain would have exploded just from trying to figure out what everything meant.

In the world of Tarot, I am learning about different ways to interpret cards.  This is an on-going process, as I’ve come to find that no two readings are alike.  I am also amazed at how I was able to pick it up, especially since before April 2009, I never read Tarot cards at ALL.

Through all of this, I would like to thank the astrology and Tarot communities on Twitter for their support.  I enjoy tweeting and networking with everyone.  I’ve learned so much from you all, and I would not have gotten to THIS point without each and every one of you!  Much love, gratitude, and positive vibes to all of you on Twitter! :)

3 Card Focus: 4 of Pentacles, 4 of Wands reversed,...

3 Card Focus: 4 of Pentacles, 4 of Wands reversed, 5 of Cups reversed

3 Card Focus: 4 of Pentacles, 4 of Wands reversed, 5 of Cups reversed

This week’s 3 Card Focus revolves around the 4 of Pentacles, 4 of Wands reversed, and the 5 of Cups reversed.

Reading: You’ve been blessed with many gifts.  However, instead of sharing the wealth, knowledge, or joy with others, you have been keeping these things to yourself.  It’s driven you to some isolation, perhaps to the point where you’ve neglected those supporting you.  This has influenced a project you were working.  The project is nearing completion, however since the loss of support, it has crumbled some foundations.  Failure to launch – it’s not the time to celebrate, there’s more work to be done.  Since then, there may be feelings of regret – but once you allow yourself to move past it, things will get better.

Thoughts: Things may not be going as planned.  Although the groundwork of your project has weakened, you can still rebuild that foundation.  Give more thought into your action, and think of the consequences for every scenario.  Plan and think ahead.  Find support and accept support from others.  They will help you build a stronger base.  Give back to your supporters, your community.  Share your happiness and gifts with others.  If you do these things, you will find yourself with a stronger sense of security and new alliances with others.

Airport Dreams

September 26th, 2009 by taurusrising.net received 3 Comments »

It has been a while since I blogged about dreams.  Today, I am getting on the ball and will be discussing a common theme in dreams: Airports Dreams.

Airport dreams have always been my favorite theme. I tend to get them during “transitional phase” in my life.  This theme usually indicates  hopes and dreams or “taking off” with a new idea.  I’m always excited to see them – it gives me the reassurance that my new project is headed in the right direction.

Here is an example of one of my dreams from a few weeks ago:

I was in my house packing my bags.  There were two or three other people with me, but I couldn’t make out who they were.  I was packing up my stuff, but for some reason I wasn’t taking the bags with me.  I said, “So you mean that once we leave, this means that we can’t come back?”  No one answered me, but I remember looking out of the front door.  It lead to an airport terminal.

Airport Dreams - flying off in a new direction

Airport Dreams - flying off in a new direction

The week when I had this dream, I was undergoing a process of “decluttering” my life.  In other words, getting rid of old baggage, weeding out the negative people and influences in my life, letting go of ideas and habits that weren’t working for me.  This is referenced in the dream by me – packing my bags.  My dream also showed my insecurity about the situation.  I realized that once I let go of these things, they would be out of my life.  However, the dream ends on a happy note – I am glancing out of a front door (symbolizing a door to new opportunities) and into an airport terminal, a place where you can “fly off” into a new direction.

If you see an airport in your dream, it is usually a good indicator that you are transitioning with a project or moving into a new chapter in life.

Music and Tarot

September 25th, 2009 by taurusrising.net received 2 Comments »

Yesterday I learned from fellow blogger, aurarcana, that the new Smashing Pumpkins album will be revolving around “The Fool’s Journey”.  “The Fool’s Journey” is a process leading from the beginning to the ending of the Major Arcana cards.  The Fool starts off on a journey and through his travels, meets the other characters/symbols from the Major Arcana.

I think that this is a very cool concept and I’m really looking forward to seeing the final product!  You can read more about the Smashing Pumpkins and their new album on Smashing Pumpkins dot com.

On a related note, I am reminded of Roseanne Cash’s video of “The Wheel”.  In this song, there are several references to Tarot cards – through the video and through the lyrics.  (originally found through Mary K. Greer’s blog)

And now, my question to you: Can you think of any other songs or videos that reference Tarot cards?

Gratitude and Thankful Thursday

What are you thankful for?

What are you thankful for?

On Twitter, there is a meme that goes around on Thursdays: #ThankfulThursday It’s a really nice meme and it had me thinking, “What am I grateful for?”

A few months ago, a friend on mine wrote a wonderful post on the importance of gratitude and noticing the small blessings in life.  She talked about being grateful for the people that got you to where you are now.  And she discussed the importance of expressing your gratitude to others.

For almost a year, I’ve been keeping a “gratitude journal”.  It is actually part of my Moleskine planner.  Every night before I go to bed, I write down five things (or more) that I am thankful for.  Once you get yourself into the habit of doing this, you begin to see the things to be grateful for.  I’ve come to the realization that phases in my life that I thought of as awful, were actually blessings in disguise.

Think about where you currently stand in life.  How do you feel about your situation?  Are you satisfied?  Are you unhappy?  Wherever you are, think about the positive things that you have to be thankful for.  No matter how silly or how crazy it sounds.  Here are some examples:

  • Being dumped by your significant other for twenty years, which allowed you to become single and find The One.
  • Becoming friends with Shady People and then realizing what kind of qualities you want to find in a Good Friend… and then later finding yourself surrounded with them.
  • Having your laptop break, to make you realize that you were spending too much time on it – and then finding your love for writing again.
  • Being fired from a job that you didn’t like, which opened yourself to be called upon a career in a hobby that you adore.

Yet often, it is the “small things” that are overlooked. For example:

  • Beautiful weather.
  • A job.
  • Good health.
  • An education.
  • Shelter and food.
  • Creativity.
  • Breakfast (my personal favorite meal of the day!)
  • Coffee
  • Love from those around you.
  • A supportive family.
  • Your favorite outfit.
  • Blasting your favorite music in your car.

Sometimes, we don’t think to thank the people that are there to support us everyday.  Saying “thank you” is only two words, but it goes a long way.  Remember to thank your support group, your teachers, and your loved ones near and far.  And as I always like to recommend, it’s easy to send a quick thank you note through e-mail, but a hand-written one is more personal.

Even if things seem to be going wrong, don’t forget the little things.  There is always something to be grateful for.

3 Card Focus: Strength reversed, 9 of Wands, King ...

September 23rd, 2009 by taurusrising.net received No Comments »
It's not Me vs. The World.

It's not Me vs. The World.

This will be a new series for future postings.  Instead of doing Daily Tarot Card interpretations, I will be drawing three cards.  These cards will act as focus cards.  I’ll be using these cards as things to concentrate on during the week.

Without further ado, our first drawing for this series is: Strength reversed, 9 of Wands, King of Pentacles reversed

Reading: You’re allowing your emotions to rule the game.  You’ve become paranoid and you think of yourself as wounded.  Although you may realize your shortcomings, you are placing the blame on others.  You’re fighting a battle: “Me vs The World”.  Because of this, you’ve lost the strength in your beliefs.  You’ve become somewhat narrow-minded, unable to see the bigger picture.  Being blocked, you’ve also become extremely lazy.  There’s a lot of work to be done, unfortunately, you don’t want to do the work.  You’d rather sit back, relax, and then reap the rewards of someone else’s completed project.

Thoughts: Stop placing the blame on others, there’s two sides to every story.  You may have had some failures, but you can’t just place the blame on others.  You had some contributions to it.  There is no reason to battle the world, the war only exists in your head.  Get past your wounds and get back to work.

Drops of Jupiter by Train

I wanted to share this video with you all – it’s the song that inspired the title of my last post.  If you haven’t heard it before, I’m sure that you’ll love it!  This is the video of a song called Drops of Jupiter by the band Train.  It’s one of my favorite songs because it has a catchy beat, beautiful lyrics, and a lot of references to planets, constellations, and “new agey” stuff.

You can read the lyrics for Drops of Jupiter on Rhapsody’s website.

Abstract by ba1969 on sxu.hu

Hi everyone!

I’ve returned from my little break.  The last week or so has been hectic.  I’ve been working on various projects as well as some new art projects.  I have to say, despite all of the bad hype of Mercury Retrograde, I’ve found this period to be amazingly creative.

Some thoughts and things in store for Taurus Rising:

  • Let’s Focus ~ Weekly Tarot Readings: Every week, I will draw three cards and analyze and interpret them as things to focus/work towards for the week.
  • More Book Reviews: This is pretty self-explanatory!  Through my studies with astrology and Tarot, I’ve read many books.  I’ll share my thoughts on these reads.
  • Dreamy Wednesdays: I’ve been neglecting this category for a while and then I thought, why am I not writing about dreams?  I love analyzing and interpreting them.  I want to share with my readers, my knowledge of things that can happen in dream land.  I’ve also thought about doing a “dream analysis of the week” sort of thing.  That being – a reader (can be anonymous) submits their dreams, and I will publicly post the dream and leave my interpretation and thoughts.
  • Card of the Week: I haven’t decided if I will keep doing this, but it is good for practice.

… and a few other surprises.  I will blog more about them when I can solidify my ideas.  I’m also interested in your thoughts.  Is there something you’re interested in seeing me blog about?  Specific topics that you would like me to address?  Please leave your suggestions in the comments!

Thank you!
