I mentioned in my last post (Taurus Rising is back!), Saturn has entered my 6th house. My 5th house, ruled by Leo, is now housing Mars retrograde until March 10, 2010.

Although, Mars retrograde is transiting through 5th house, my 5th house is free from the restraints of Saturn. Saturn is a planet that teaches lessons, such as how to survive within certain restrictions.

Saturn‘s transition from one sign to another lasts around two and a half years. In the last two years, my life has undergone several changes. The 5th house is the home of self-expression, children, and sex! As Leo is the natural ruler of the 5th house, I believe that Saturn’s power was amplified.

Some of the changes in my life (mostly things that were out of my control), put a restraint on my “me-time”. With Saturn’s move into my 6th house (the house of daily chores, scheduling, health, and fitness) , I feel that I’m managing my time better. I have been “scheduling” time for creative projects.

Now, Mars is the planet of ambition and vitality. It represents what “drives us”. With Mars retrograde, the energy is focused inward. As I said in my previous post, this may be the cause of inward aggression. Anger. The key to dealing with Mars retrograde is to channel that energy into something other than anger (Mars is also the god of war!). For me, I have been focusing this energy into creativity – art, music, and writing. Self-expression!

Although it sounds odd, I believe that Saturn has taught me about the lack of self-expression. I had been prone to writer’s block and often avoiding art and music – even though they were things that I wanted to work on. I am grateful for Saturn transiting into my 6th house – teaching me that even though I still have restrictions, there is a way to balance things (how appropriate with Saturn being in Libra!).

No other sign enjoys being adored and fussed over like the sign of Leo. When Venus, the planet of romance, friendship, and style is in Leo, this placement expects nothing less than the royal treatment. From August 27, 2009 to September 20, 2009, lovely Venus is in the sign of fiery sign of Leo.

What does all of this mean? We have an influence in the sky of being passionate and creative in our relationships. Not only that, it’s also the time to shower our significant others, friends, and family with love, warmth, and gratitude. In general, it’s always wonderful to express our love to our partners, but with Venus in Leo in the sky, there is something influencing all to be a little more loving!

So, how do you take advantage of Venus in Leo? Are you lacking some ideas about how to shower your loved ones? If so, I’ve compiled a list of 10 things to do with Venus in Leo. Although most of these ideas are relatively inexpensive, if expressed with lots of heart, your loved ones will appreciate the time you’ve spent on their gifts.

Breakfast in bed. Who doesn’t love waking up to breakfast in bed? To make things even more special, add a pretty flower for display.

While we’re on the topic of food, try cooking a delicious dinner for your loved one. Make this dinner even more special by adding tablecloth to the table, some flowers, and candles. If you’re not a master chef in the kitchen, take your loved one out for a special date.

Write a song about your special person. If you aren’t creative in this area, if you can play a musical instrument, try learning how to play one of their favorite songs and serenading them with it!

Write a poem or a sappy love letter. Venus in Leo gives us all a wonderful excuse to write sappy love letters! If you’re unsure of how to write a love letter, visit the site below:

How to Write a Love Letter

Another writing idea – write them a list of things that you love about them. This could go along with the sappy love letter. Make sure to add lots of little things you love about them! Often little details are missed, so when you add them, it shows them that you’ve been paying extra attention. Bonus on this if it’s things that you’ve never told them before.

For friends, family, and loved ones at a distance – give them a call, write them a letter, or send them a card. Express your gratitude and love for them. With technology today, it’s easy to drop anyone an e-mail and tell them you’ve been thinking about them. Think about how often you receive snail mail. Other than advertisements and bills, how often do you receive personal letters or cards? Probably not as often! That is what makes a handwritten letter or card even more special.

Paint a picture for them. If you aren’t comfortable in painting, find a nice photo of you together, and put it in a shiny frame. Even better, find a bunch of photos, and make a collage out of it! Here are some examples of photo collage ideas.

A new hairdo! Give them the gift of getting their mane done!

Manicure/pedicure. If you’re crafty in this area, fuss over you loved one and offer to do their nails. Even guys like this (I promise!). If you’ve never had one done before, or you don’t know what it’s about, it isn’t all about painting nails. Manicures and pedicures are part of the royal treatment and giving them your full attention. Here are a few sites to check out if you need some help:

How to Give a Professional Manicure

How to Give a Professional Pedicure

And finally… massage! Give your significant other a massage or treat them to one. I don’t know anybody that wouldn’t love getting a massage! This is one of my favorite ideas and is definitely something of royal treatment!

I hope you enjoyed this list. I will be writing more lists of “Things to do…” during transits or when I want to learn more about a specific placement.

I’ve returned from vacation and just in time to crawl into the shadow of next month’s Mercury retrograde! Before we get into that, let’s talk about transits, the Sun, and the Moon.

Last night, I was talking to my friend from the 8th House Spark Breaker. I was telling her about a rough period I had a few months ago and then suddenly said, “I wonder what was going on in the sky during that time.” So, I pulled up my chart on astro.com and went to check out the sky during that time period. I was astonished to see how much was going on during that time (including a Mercury retrograde!).

I’m a newbie to astrology, so my friend explained a lot of the things that I didn’t understand. For instance, one of my transits was Chiron (“the wounded healer”) and my natal Mercury (communication) in the 10th house (public image). At the time, I was dealing with some real internal problems. I was in a situation that had me feeling really shameful. Communication in this area was pretty bad. I ended up shutting out a lot of friends from my life to “save face”.

Seeing what was going on in the sky with relation to that period in my life was pretty interesting to see. If you’re curious about what was in the sky during a specific time, you can get a free transit chart by visiting astro.com. Once you have your natal chart, visit the section of “My Astro” called “Extended Chart Selection”. After that, the chart that you want to select is “natal chart and transits *”. Very cool!

Also, I’m going to do a quick plug for my friend and tell you to visit her site: 8th House Spark Breaker She’s doing chart readings again and is excellent at explaining things. I love talking to her, I always learn a million different things. Check out her site!

Speaking on transits, as I write this post the Sun (ego) and Moon (emotions) are in the mighty sign of Leo. This is double the Leo power! Right now, the Sun and Moon are transiting my natal 4th house (home and sense of security). However, what does the heck does that mean? We think of the sign Leo – the sign of creativity, warmth, hospitality, a fiery and bold attitude! (and on the flip-side, showoff-ish, and dominant). I’ve been trying to figure out all evening how this transit affects me, until I realized, I really did have a productive day. I got a lot of paperwork done, filled out some things for some job training, looked through finances… and I’ve always thought of the 4th house as more of a “homely” type of house, but I forgot that it also dealt with a sense of security. All of these things affect having a sense of security – financially stable, having a steady job, etc. In other words, I was very actively pursing these things.

Now, let’s talk move onto something more fun. Yesterday, August 18, 2009 – we entered the shadow period of the Mercury retrograde. Now, the Mercury retrograde won’t occur until September 7, 2009. It will be with us for almost the entire month of September, when it ends on September 29, 2009. Even though it’s still weeks away, in the “shadow period”, it’s when we begin to feel the effects of the storm. For most, the Mercury retrograde means, technical problems (computers in chaos- hard drives crashing), car and travel problems/delays… basically, this is usually a time for delays, frustration, and not a good time to sign contracts unless you really really read the fine print. However, it gives us time to stop (while trying not to go crazy), look around, and reevaluate what’s going on in our life.

As the construction signs say on the Pennsylvania turnpike, “Expect Delays”.

In preparation for it, I recommend reading:
